She specialized in wildlife and scenic motifs. In 1971, after becoming interested in the whaling era and the natural materials used, she began making scrimshaw items for friends and family. Linda Layden developed an interest in Scrimshaw after viewing a collection belonging to journalist Roger Hawthorne, who traveled with Admiral Bird on an expedition to Antarctica. This is part of the Save the Elephant Collection and was originally hand etched by Linda Layden. The large round piece has a magnet on the back to keep it secured to the board and store the pegs. The board has a native geometric design that was originally hand etched. The cribbage board itself is made for two players or teams. All cribbage boards come with 3 red and 3 white/yellow wooden pegs. Pushing on the base of the piece pops the Large round off the board, where the pegs are stored.
